I know something like this existed on the hacked forum but how do you do a HRmax test on the turbo? I'd like to know so I can program my forerunner so I have HRmax for run and bike. cheers

or a ramp test if you have power eg. increase power by 20W every minute until no more juice, not even a drop, HR at that point is HRmax

Or so I have heard it said, maybe someone more knowledgable can vouch for that or correct it? Also all the usual stuff about being careful with maximal testing, you wouldn't make your granny do it after pie and chips etc

That's what I did on Monday, levoleurdefruits. On a Flow the control panel is held by someone else who ups the resistance every so often while recording HR (and many other things) at each step. When under full load he waited until my pedaling started to slow at the end then I did a 10 second 'sprint' to record max HR. Not sure how you'd do it on a passive turbo as I can pedal along in top gear so that wouldn't work. The test took 25 minutes in all, plus a bit of WU/WD.
Having said that, max HR is pretty useless for calculating zones. It's pretty much set genetically and no amount of training will change it. But training will alter your zones. Getting a fitness test will set you back about £100 but you'll get accurate zones, fat burn profile, lactate threshold, VO2max and much more. You'll be able to target your weak areas and use the right zones to make your training effective.
