Not having access to the main forum has meant that I haven't been able to post my news. On Wednesday of last week I felt a niggle in my left calf. I slowed down and took a rest from running for a few days hoping it would clear up. I was hoping to get in a final "tempo" 13 miler over the week-end but the leg still felt iffy, so I cut this down to a short 5 mile run on Sunday evening. After 3 miles, I began to feel a little stiffness (cue smart response from Stridey if he's managed to log on here yet) and at 4 miles, the calf seized up altogether. I ended up walking the last mile and applied the customary RICE procedure. I did no exercise yesterday and will not run between now on Sunday to give it the best hope of recovery. It certainly feels better today and I can at least put my full weight on the left foot when climbing stairs, but its 50/50 whether I'll be able to finish on Sunday. Whatever happens I will be there because I need to exchange my Zipp wheels for cash before the race and I'm pretty optimistic about being able to start. At least being a three lap affair, I won't have far to walk if the leg gives out completely again!

I hope your calf holds out Dale.
Last week my training was curtailed a bit as I was feeling a little off and had a sore gum. Anyway had aroot canal done and a course of antibiotics and Im just back from a quick 8miler (including some wading as a stream had burst its banks).
Tomorrow I get the tooth filled properly, should be ok for Sunday..

DaleC, thats bad news, hope it heals up for sunday. See you down there!
Funny this because Im usually the only one moaning while everyone else is injury free. But for once I have no excuses.. Had a big PB on a run lactate test end last week, weight is stable-ish (5lbs lighter than last year anyway), and no significant injury probs. Also this year I'll be wearing running tights and hh therma ls......so no flapping as it were! also got weekend to myself and no sleeping night before on mates dirty floor in luton. perfick. game on.

Shall we have a meet up beforehand? where/when?

The last time I did this race, the registration/changing area was held downstairs in the leisure centre. If the weather forecast is anything to go, I suggest that we meet up there rather than outside in the elements. I'm aiming to get there about 8.30am.

I spotted a James Parker on the start list - does this mean Conan managed to persuade them to give him an entry or is there another James Parker at large ?

Good one! sounds like the fella got in. He must have turned up in person and they thought Peter Andre was doing some charity work. Just had my last run today. A slight niggle in hip flexor and felt sluggish but no major probs. Hows it doug? Just back from seeing Doctor Nic. Prognosis is not good. Viral infection, he checked and suggested running a marathon could be a _bad_ idea. B0110ck5 Now I'm going to have to do a 26-mile training run to make up the miles for Tring 2 Town. On the basis that I'm motivated by medals that's not good.

Thats bad luck mate. 'Motivated by medals'.....so you'll be up the front at tring2tring? have you done many ultras? tc, im a lot harder than you think now. I can quite comfortably watch someone take a dump in the bushes and not be too traumatised by the whole thing. its taken a little bit of cash and 'guidance' but my fragile little mind has developed over the last year Just back from seeing Doctor Nic. tweenster - I have PM'd you. See you tomorrow. As for my injury, I have refrained from running for a week now and although I can put my full weight on the right leg, I can still feel a twinge and I doubt very much whether I'll be able to complete 5 miles, let alone 26! But I'll do a warm up and see how it feels - but I'm not prepared to take any needless risks and risk even greater injury, so if the worst comes to the worst, I'll join the spectators and cheer everybody on. Mind you, if its raining........!

best of feckin luck dale. good attitude to starting, but don't get too carried away with race fever about continuing if your body thinks otherwise.
looks like the rain may blow itself out just before the start. dunno about wind tho, likewise hopefully. if i deign to turn up, TTers can always take shelter and draft behind me, but it won't do you much good as i'm pencil d1ck thin.
