Who's your money on? Personally I'd like Andy Murray to win it. Considering his age, the standard of tennis these days, and the pressure/high expectations of being the new English no.1.........he's done so well to reach the lofty heights of top20. DC and Calzaghe for the other 2 for me. Ok DC hasnt achieved anythign spectacular but its sports personality after all - not just about achievement. The guys a top bloke and held himself together to compete at the top of the game (inc a good Ryder performance) despite his huge personal loss game on!

Daz Daz Daz...... Andrew Murray ...FFS !!!!!.......what a miserable jerk that guy is....cant agree with you there at all !!!! Now DC I totally agree with, as he was totally inspirational at the Ryder Cup and what a nice chap too......and he likes a guiness. I think Calzaghe is one of the most underrated sportsmen around...have you seen his record...unbe-credible !! But overall, it must be DC.....

Wiganer, true he does seem to be a bit lacking in 'personality' at times - the grumpy teenager. Didnt think about that. But then so was Nigel Mansell ;D Yeh I was thinking in terms of performance for Andy and personality for DC I guess.

Calzaghe for me.

P.S. What did Darren Clarke do to deserve the award? (I'm not a golf follower).

I have to say I think Calzaghe deserves it although Beth Tweddle has had a fantastic year.

I heard Darren Clarke being interviewed on the radio the other day. Said he wasn't entirely comfortable with being nominated for SPOTY, and didn't want any sympathy votes. Sounded like he'd be rather relieved if someone else won.

I don't think I could bear to watch it if he did win...
They're bound to start going on about the things he's been though this year and that's bound to stir it all up again for the poor guy...

Theres not enough boxing fans out there for it to be calzaghe, though he has had a very good year.

If Andy Murray wins it then it doesn't say much for British sport. He hasn't won anything and is far too miserable. I suspect it will go to DC

I'd vote for Tweddle, first ever British gymnast to take gold at the World Champs.
At least there are no footballers, even though it's world cup year.

Just imagine if a world champion WASNT included in the final short list! I'd vote for Tweddle, first ever British gymnast to take gold at the World Champs. At least there are no footballers, even though it's world cup year.

At least there are no footballers, even though it's world cup year. I think that's BECAUSE it's a World Cup year - goes to show how high the expectations are. I think Nicole Cooke has a chance. Darren Clarke doesn't like the idea that his wife had to die for him to get any mention, and neither do I. Sickening of people to claim grief by association. See Diana, Funeral of.

Daz, like Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson? Each year I'm amazed by the people who make the shortlist and the people who are left off. Then amazed again that the winner has no 'personality' to speak of. ;D
