Looking to get a camcorder for christmas. Got £200 to spend. Anyone know of a decent, easy to use one? Was looking at a Sony and a Panasonic on Amazon

I think you can now pick up a dvd camcorder for around £200 at the moment best to shop around the usual places as deals are to be had at this time of year!! I got myself anew tv half price at currys this weekend.

Be warned that to get decent quality on the DVD camcorders you only get something like 20 mins from a disc. Not a huge problem as they are cheap but you need to remember to take plenty with you. MiniDV is still the best bet if you dont mind the hassle of hooking the camcorder up to the pc to watch it or if you can edit on your PC.

I'd skip the DVD cams because then you are stuck with loads of DVDs with dribs and drabs on - ultimately you'll be wanting to edit them into something more useful and burn a new disc anyway

Mini-dv is great for editing on the PC (assuming you have firewire port) Check if you need DV-in as it's needed to record the final edited version back to tape, of course most people just master DVD instead. It might be worth trying to find one with analogue-in as you then be able to at a helmet/bullet cam etc, a feature I wish mine had. While the digital cameras aren't as good as mini-dv, depending on what you need the film for most modem cameras can record at 640x480 30fps direct to SD card.
