Go along to the accident and emergency department of you local hospital. Tell them it's an emergency and that you demand to be seen.

oil of cloves soaked on cotton wool and jammed onto your tooth. Smells awful, tastes worse but really does work!

oil of cloves. No really do this now. The effects are instant, you go from pain to pain free in 1 minute! I was a cynic but after a friend took me to the chemist and made me buy a 50p bottle I couldn't believe the results. Get to the chemist right now and you'll become a walking advert for this cure before you know it..... R

Suck ice cubes? I have no idea. Go to the hospital and get something strong.

frigging hell wiganer......
what's going to break on you next?
advice as above. but if your dentist can't see you then go to your nearest dental hospital. they run emergency clinics (I went to one on thursday this week, took 2 hrs in total -wait and treatment, you do see student dentists- but their work gets checked by a supervisor so no worries there)

(Un)fortunately not all dental hospitals are open outside of weekdays nine-to-five. However, if you phone NHS redirect, they should be able to point you in the direction of any emergency dental clinics in your area - I should point out the government has made lots of noise about improving access to dental treatment.
As for your home remedies, the oil of cloves works - but only if the pain is originating in the nerve of the tooth, it won't work on abscesses or other infections. Don't use too much of the stuff cause you can end up with chemical burns of the lining of your mouth, which makes it hurt even more.
As for painkillers, the ibuprofen is a good start. Paracetamol with codeine (assuming that you're ok with it) can be taken with it without any interactions, either take both at the same time or alternate the different types every two hours - just don't exceed the dosage!

I am currently on a mix of co-dydramol / neurofen migraine, hot water bottle and a bottle of muscadet......
I have a number to ring in the morning 9.30-12.30 to maybe get some treatment. If not I have to wait until Thursday for my appointment (but I will ring every day to check for cancellations)...
looks like another night watching the test match (at least it is worth watching...)

Can't you get those throat sprays that numb your throat? How about squirting some of that stuff on your gums?
