Simple question really, but please ignore if you don’t celebrate. When will you be putting up your Christmas tree this year?Ours will go up next Friday, 8th December. My wife thinks this is too early & I think this is too late. ( Oh the joys of compromise in a modern marriage.  ) Over to the TT massive… Ho! Ho! Ho! Strong, Paul.  P.S. I will probably be getting one this weekend and putting it up - perhaps not everything, but the tree at least, because of the hassle of doing it after the baby arrives.
My mum has really strict rules about christmas trees and decorations, saying you can only have them up for the 12 days of christmas.
PS - thanks for the good wishes via TT before the big crash! No baby yet...

I'm with Schedboy on this one... one week before & one week after. Picking up dropped pine needles & baubles gets tedious every time you open & close the curtains!
The length of time would be prolonged if we had kids, then it would probably go up next week, but seeing as we have don't have any little rotters yet we can do what we like!!! ;D

Tree will go up whenever the wife dictates it shall go up - I would anticipate weekend of the 16th, then comes down on whatever day she takes it down |

Ours will probably go up about mid-December and then comes down on New Years Day. (Santa smilie duly installed, no one was using the little blushing one anyhow  |

I thought tradition dictated 12 days before and 12 days after.
We're usually there or thereabouts with this rule of thumb.

Why put a tree up in your house anyway?
And as for plastic ones or worse still a cheap and nasty lit up fibre optic thing is just Yuck!
Why not leave trees where they belong in the ground?
Its only a "tradition" started by Queen Vic and her hubby so why do it?
And another thing why lie to young kids about an old man called Santa who is nothing more than an advert for Coca Cola in the 1920's?
Yes I dont like Christmas apart from its origins

I'm doing mine next weekend. My neighbours have had theirs up for four weeks already!! I'm opting for an atrificial one this year....I love real trees, but after seeing all the creepy crawlies that fell out if it last year onto the wooden floors (had carpets before) I've opted for plastic this time.

The tree always comes down on 12th night. But with two small children (6 & 4) they are desperate for it to be up soon. (OK, so their dad is still a big kid at heart too.  ) It is a modern artificial one that bears some resemblance to a real one. Flipper - Agreed, real trees belong in the ground & we need more of them! And if I had to explain why children believe in Santa, you wouldn't understand. Obviously you need a tree is so Santa knows where to put the presents!  |

Probably up Sunday afternoon while Bambina's napping. She comes downstairs to "Oooh! Aaaah!" (as I pin my thumb to the bunting on the ceiling).
Traditionally stuff goes up on the first Sunday of Advent but we were still sleeping off our day trip to Lille.
Down on 12th Night.

As Paul said we have 2 little ones who are starting christmas as of this morning due to advent calanders and now what a tree etc etc

I was always told that it was Father Christmas, who was St Nicholas, I'll do the same for my kids, and I'll tell them that Santa is a stupid American invention for stupid Americans! we will probably put ours up on 11th so little person can help. I love real Christmas trees, but we don't really have room for the massive 8 footer I would like to have = hubby made me get an artificial one a few years ago (more cost effective!) and actually it is rather nice!
The legend of 'St Nicholas is as old as the hills (about the 3rd Century I think)
