Hi gang -
I've been drafted into a work trip to Brussels in mid-December. Anybody know a good place to swim south of the city centre? I'll be staying near the Troon metro station.

surley swimming in brussles would be a bit tricky, unless its a very large sourcepan and the water is not boiling

BTW, Doug -
How do you like the Slowtwitch "handle"? I've been living in the UK too dang long - but I know that no one in the US would come up with that name ...

Warning - the pool where I occasionally swim a few kms outside Brussels won't let you in without a 'bonnet' (swim cap). Hygiene at that pool is better than where I swim here in the UK though.

I always swim with a cap these days. Thinking of taking my IMUK cap to make "friends". Thinking of using the pool at the Vrije Universiteit, not too far from my hotel. 25m, doesn't look too shabby. BR - is there a charge for lockers generally? €1 piece that you get back? B

BR - is there a charge for lockers generally? €1 piece that you get back? At the place where I swim, no charge and no key, just a keypad on the front of the locker where you tap in a 4-digit code (then try not to forget it while you swim). It also has changing cubicles with two doors - one to the outside corridor and one to the locker area and pool. I didn't realise the first time that a fold-down shelf locks both doors...trying to get changed while keeping two doors closed is a bit stressful (doh). Check opening times as they seem a bit haphazard over there. Having never swum elsewhere in Belgium I don't know if these things are standard in Belgium or just peculiar to that particular pool.

And then when you get to the exit, a quiz: "Name three great Belgians." Otherwise you're charged double on the spot. Eddy Merckx Roger Vlaminck Ermmm ... that guy who buzzed Brussels when it was occupied by the Germans in the Great War ... Willy Coppens?

If I had two smites you'd both get one.
No namkinoib would get two. First for a rubbish joke and the second for whinging. The most pitiful display since the "These jokes don't write themselves / Tumbleweed" episode.
;D
