did a 30 mins Z2 bike followed by a 15 mins Z2 run. All was well. Then, about an hour afterwards, i was sitting watching tv, and as is stood up my back went I collapsed onto my knees. It then took me 5 minutes before i could get up off of the floor. Now I can hardly walk It's the lower left side of my back. And is still sore now. It's kept me up all night. It's like my back is having spasms. Really sore. Any ideas ?

Google for back pain & exercise/stretches - to keep it mobile. Heal strong!

Pot Noodle, smeared liberally around the offending area will normally right any wrongs.

It's unlikely it was the Z2 bike and run. That may have been the final thing that broke you but there's something wrong with your biomechanichs or core & back strength or technique or posture or all of them. Have a look around on the net, there is lots of info around.

this happens to me, and has done for the past few years. for me it happens due to one side being stronger in the lower back and buttock region. i have been given exersises to do but as with most things like this once the pain goes so dose the exersis.
however it happend again last week and just geting over it, although i have been able to train throughthe pain (bad i know) but i am now going to carry on the streangh exersis.
go see a pyhsio.
the pain i get when it happens is in the lower back, not able to strightern up, lower area of my abb's, as if they are being pulled backwards, and pain down the inside of my thighs.

I'd go see a physio, but the waiting time here for a physio on the nhs is about 12 weeks. What exercises were you recommended ?

NHS is useless and their physios are more for rehab than preventative care. I wish I'd of taken this advise with my achilles injury last season.

Recommend 'Biofreeze' gel , Boots sell it - I've always been told to chill things rather than heat them, something to do with taking the blood away rather than drawing it to the injury.
Also not stretching your hamstrings properly can lead to lower back pain. I get my pain on my left lower back and it's always the left hamstring that I have trouble stretching - I now make sure I use a strap to really stretch them out

I wish I'd of taken this advise with my achilles injury last season.[/quote] cough cough..... i'm an NHS physio and I would like to say that I am not useless and I have a special interest in pre-habilitation and sports injuries. sorry to hear you had a bad experiance with your physio, but don't lump us all in the same boat. LSD, go see your GP. You will be seen urgently (few days to week?) by an NHS physio as your injury is less than 6 weeks. the 12 week wait is for chronic injuries (they've waited months before going to see their Dr so a few more weeks won't change anything). If you've got the cash and can't wait, go and find a private physio. But go from word of mouth if you can.

Ditto all those that said go to a physio, NHS is fine if you can wait, otherwise splash the cash its worth every penny.
