I bought a Tacx flow today and after much swearing and sweating have got it set up. But the resistance on it seems very high - I can't calibrate it because I need to reach 30kph to do that and I just can't make it go that fast. By the time I get to 20kph my legs will hardly move and I my heart is about to explode, even in an easy gear. I'm no Lance, but I'm not that slow normally...
I've tried adjusting the big black knob under the handle but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Any ideas as to what I might have done wrong?

WN Thanks WN. I can see the roller moving away and towards the wheel, but there seems to be a very fine line between it not touching at all (and I get no speed showing on the screen) or the resistance being too high. I haven't touched the watts yet so it should still be at 100. I see that you can change the resistance using the compuet - maybe I should try that. It also feels quite jerky - I've never been on a turbo before so I don't know if that's normal or not.

does this one have variable magnetic resistance?
If so, make sure the lever is on the easiest setting first

It also feels quite jerky - I've never been on a turbo before so I don't know if that's normal or not. i think that could be the problem as that sounds like the rear wheel is slipping on the roller, try moving the rollers onto the tyre more so this slip is illiminated. its ok to get a bit of slip while you are first start pedalling but should disappear as you speed up. also see what the watt setting on the computer is WN

Thanks guys I've managed to improve it quite a bit, enough to be getting on with. I can definitely notice the resistance changing as I speed up. I think the tyre was slipping a bit. It doesn't help that I've had 3 weeks off training so my legs are finding it hard anyway. I think i'll go round to a friend's and see how it compares to hers...

you have the check that the cylinder nut is on right, sometimes it can move and tightening it makes no difference.
Fiddly is not the word

Fiddly is not the word I'm not sure I know how it is supposed to be - the instructions were carp to say the least. Should it be parallel to the bike wheel or at right angles? Please say parallel - the thought of trying to move it does not bear thinking about And no, fiddly was not the word I was using when I put this together...

Sorry, the cylinder is supposed to be perpendicular to the wheel, alligned the same as the roller.

Well, I've taken it to bits and obviously done something right because it seems to be running much more smoothly now. The speedo is definitely not right tho but I can't face any more fiddling with it today. Thank you all for your help - appreciate it very much

If your on a 700c rear wheel remember you should have used part Z during the bulid - it's the pair of black plastic extension brackets (without the extra screw set).
