I use it because I'm a tight bum and won't pay out for energy drink. Works perfectly well and there's no 'sugar low' that people go on about. Been using it for ages and had no problems. Quite like a bit of fizz as well as it's refreshing.

may sound daft but do you take it in the bottle it comes in or in water bottles

Bottle? The 1.5 litre one's? You can get RolaCola for 11p a can down here. I put a can full in a 750ml bottle and top it up with water. That'll see me through a 10 mile run of 90 minutes of turbo fun. Toping the bottle up with water seems to take most of the fizz out.

i only take it at the end of an im mara or straight mara to get an upper from the caffein, sugar. i like to have this to look forward to. also, if i suffer any adverse effects (stitch, GI probs) from the gas it is less likely to happen later in the race. remember its packed with sugar - do you really want to be taking so much in your diet? and on top of that it doesnt contain the minerals an electrolyte carb drink will. You could possible add a little sodium if you like, but the balance will not be perfect and you'll lack other minerals. if im feeling cheap ill just make a drink from fruit juice/water/pinch salt

Cola is about a zillion times LESS corrosive to your teeth than energy drink as well. I could quite easily do 10 mile runs on nothing so whatever I take is a bonus. Any run longer than that and I'd fork out for 'proper' energy drink and do it properly.
But as Daz hinted at, test it out as it may not work for you. It's like Conan uses RedBull half way through his IM marathon while it makes others sick.

6 bottles on a belt containing 3.5:1 electrolite mix. I judged it just right, I finished the last one as I jogged into the finishing chute. I overtook loads of people at aid stations.

Oh no, it's really me.
500ml bottles.
3.5:1 watered down electrolite drink.
I thought about using my camelback but was worried I'd look at bit daft.

At Clearwater, obviously no one had told them that it's conventional to let the coke go flat overnight because it was all fully fizzed up as they were giving it out. One of the aid stations was even giving it out in cups full of ice, so you only got a couple of mouth fulls of coke per cup!
