so with all my thinking of late being towards my IM goal next year.
i haven't realy thought how i should race my lead up races.
one of these is Bala Middle distance.
so how should i attack this race, as if it is an IM race only shorter, meaning race at my IM pace
or add a bit extra and see how far i go till the wheels fall of

I'd race it like a long Olympic rather than a short IM. You don't need to eat at the same rate as IM and you can go fairly hard. Lots of fun.

Hi Ray,
I did a similar thing last year,Bala Middle upto IMUK, my coach suggested that i used the race to sort out pacing and feeding plans,so i did the race at the same heart rates as i was going to race IMUK, it also shows up any weakness in your Im game plan, mine was the run!!! if you do Bala you will find out why!!!

If you hit it really hard your recovery might take a bit of your potential time at the IM.
