triathlon or TT, even personal. for me, finishing austria. sharing some good time with chums outside the weidenhoff reading hywels race report for hawaii, learning that he is human after all, not a machine. and gaining a lot of respect for not jacking it in and cracking on with it watching the TT massive at IMUK cheering them on and feeling part of a big family. watching stadler live on ironman live win hawaii, the guys is just awsome seeing tri girl come over lyonns gate with a huge smile was inspiring.( respect) but i must say the best moment was, the guy in the bikini speedos at IMUK getting clog from us supporters shouts of "STREWTH THERE'S A BLOKE DOWN THERE WITH NO STRIDES ON!" will live with me for a long time ;D

Getting a new job and promotion, beating my brother in my first tri, cycling 450miles in France over two weeks, doing my first oly, finishing new forest half, getting 43mins for a 10k run and scoring for my running club in a XC race.
Everytime I think about these things I remember what a busy year I have had.

Making it to the worlds...and finding something I am not bad at along the way. After years of smoking and genereally being a bit of a bloater, triathlon has been a nice welcome surprise.

It has been an incredible year for me. Loads of changes in my life - the biggest of which as far as TT would have an interest is me jacking in a relatively highly paid job and pursuing my dreams. Those dreams being to create my own very relaxed company organizing extreme ultra races and building up an internet shop (www.likeys.com) to cater for such people who wish to participate in such adventures.... Have never had to work so hard in all my life, but the smile has not once left my face. One of the biggest bonuses of my new venture will be the traveling - and to this extent I am off to bonny Scotland this weekend to meet a group of racers who will be participating in an ultra race in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia next July (www.sand-baggers.com) - and then on Wednesday I fly over to Canada and into the Arctic Circle to make preparations for my own race (www.6633ultra.com) taking place next March....

After being so unbelievably nervous, finishing the swim leg of TLD. That was a great buzz and set me off wanting to do more. I really enjoyed that day.

Oooh, Captaining a.g at worlds, p.bs at super sprint, oly, half marathon, time trials, 10ks.....pretty much every distance really, apart from middle distance. Outside of triathlon - rocky road to fatherhood, moving out, winning the euromillions lottery, and shacking up with stephstride....

IMUK ... to heck with the race, camping out with cool people was the real reason I'll remember it.
Seeing my daughter smile. Being able to banter with my wife and not be worried that she's going to make a cutting remark about my finances. Learning how to be happy with my lot, and to appreciate the things I can afford.

2006 has been a strange year, being out of work for a long time and having my shoulder wrecked when I was knocked off my bike dominate my immediate thoughts. Cobbette has never wavred in her support for me and that is something to be truly cherished.
From a sporting perspective, 52nd at Tough Guy and my best ever placings in running events this autumn make me optimistic for 2006.

Tri-related - many, because that's where most of my time and energy and money has gone this year: * crossing the finish line at Helvellyn, still able to smile, stand and walk * winning a prize at Helwith Bridge * realising that it is possible to swim front crawl and not swallow half the pool each time I breathe * learning that downhills on the bike can be fun Non-tri-related: * my brother's wedding - seeing that true love does exist

Learning to swim (6:00 400m now!) Getting into tri, joining a tri club, and completing my first events Finally breaking 20mins for a 5k Spending 5k on equipment... Best thing i've ever done, my fitness and health has never been better, and the most important thing of course is, i'm now waaaaaaay fitter than all of my mates!! Its been a good year, just hope I don't have the same bike related issues next year!

2006 has been a major-change year for me......highlights must be:
* getting back on my bike seriously for the first time in 10 years * losing nearly three stone (and nearly my complete wardrobe as a result) * discovering the wonderful, inspirational TT community * learning my darling wife is pregnant again and subsequently finding out it is another little boy (due March 2007) * swimming 500m in one go and 2100m in one session * loads of work related stuff (but of no interest on here)
2007 - I simply cannot wait !!!!

It has been a MASSIVE year for me, my first one in triathlon. My boyfriend left cos he said I loved my bike more than him! (TRUE). Nothing to lose so put everything into training.
Stood on the pontoon at Lausanne in the best shape of my life was the biggest highlight. Finishing 36th was just the icing on the cake. I couldn't have done it without a fantastic coach. Some how managed to win the vets race at Salford
Am stepping up to IM next year. Can't wait.
BRING IT ON!!!!

Moving in with my other half is probably the biggest highlight and starting up and new scheme to support other up and coming long course professionals www.zero2hero.co.uk. So far as races just finishing IMA is probably my biggest achievement in sport so far. Just wanted to stop for the whoe marathon... Its been a really tough year this year and am really looking forward to next year to right the wrongs of the past season...
